GET IN MY BELLY
Food I LOVE FOOD (and coffee)! So I love to eat and previously mentioned I have a horrible sweet tooth. When I get stressed out or a long day with the kiddos I love something sweet, not even a big chocolate fan but give me ice cream any time of year and I am very very happy! One of my favorite things to do with Quinton is find new places, it is actually my favorite thing because we both are down to try anything so it is fun when you have a partner who likes to try all the different types of food that are out there. I also knew how much Quinton loved me because I love Italian food and went to a few Italian food places while we were dating and one day was talking to his mom about restaurants, food, and Q and she said how he does not like Italian food……. Was shocked because clearly he sucked it up for me because he never said a word. If you need some great places to eat while you have family in town or for a date night here are some of our favorites that we have eaten at in Seattle!
Breakfast
On Tuesdays are usually Q’s off days (no football) so we always do day dates and after all the girls get dropped off we go and get some breakfast. One of our favorite places to go is Glo’s ! It is a very tiny restaurant but it is perfect. Two things I love to get are Salmon Eggs Benedict and the Marionberry stuffed french toast. The coffee and the hot chocolate are also really good! The service is just really great and the people are so nice. It might be small but we have never had to wait long for a table.
Q’s mom is in town and we decided to try a different breakfast place The Wandering Goose, and it did not disappoint. Coffee was not my favorite but let me tell youuuuuu the biscuits with jam were SO GOOD! Mia (Q’s mom) got one first and we all took a bite of hers… Whelp me and Q took two to go home. Again this restaurant was small but we did not have to wait for a table!
A favorite brunch place we go to is Barrio’s in Capitol Hill, their crispy potatoes and Frose Sangria are probably my favorite and the french toast with the honey butter is AMAZING! I am full every time we leave there. The next favorite brunch place is Salty’s on Alki Beach! This one is buffet style and there is just endless amounts of good food but also the view is really great.
Me and Q always pass by this bakery when we are in Capitol Hill that is right next to Likelihood and then I got a Seattle magazine that had the top bakeries and this was on this list! It is called Semillon. That sealed the deal and decided to try it on one of our day dates, and Zo got to come along cause she was off school! I loved how it was seriously two ladies who were in there making everything. I got a Bostock it was a dessert/pastry I had never tried before but I love anything that is almond flavored and it was SO goooood! Q and Zo both got apple turnovers that they loved. Q and I both got avocado toast with an egg on top, lets just say every plate we got was empty when we left!
Lunch/Dinner (most of these have the same menus for each!)
Poquito’s ok so this is one of my favorite places! Pretty sure there is multiple locations but we have only been to the one in Capitol Hill (notice most of these places are located around there because it is our favorite place to hang out) I just think it is so pretty inside and the food is really good. We always get the salsa trio and queso to start. And my favorite thing is the Chopped Salad I get it with or without chicken. They also always have a seasonal margarita and a seasonal agua fresca! And I love their ginger beer.
Din Tai Fung was one of my favorites when I was pregnant! It still is now. They had these slushie smoothie drinks that were just so good and I seriously craved slushies and they were so perfect. I also wanted salty stuff and this fulfilled that craving. I love the vegetarian fried noodles, sauteed kale with garlic, and then of course the steamed chicken dumplings! This is another place that has multiple locations.
Duke’s Seafood and Chowder we have only been there once right before a movie but I really liked it!! Any place that has yummy crispy potato wedge fries is my kind of place. Q and I both got chowders, he got the clam one and I got the North by Northwest seafood one both were delicious. We also split the deviled eggs! Definitely want to go back to try the rest of the menu, we had only went and sat at the bar area.
Cactus (if you can tell I like mexican food) is in Bellevue and not gonna lie there is nothing super special about it but it is another place that I like the chips, queso, and salsa! They have my favorite drink it is not on the menu but I always ask for it, it is a ginger beer mojito soooooo good. And I always get the seafood enchiladas which are delicious. The wait is ALWAYS long but if you aren’t there with kids I would suggest the bar because it has the exact menu and they do have tables over there.
La Spiga I have only been there once with Q and to me it was ok! But sometimes this happens with me and restaurants because I do not eat cow or pig so if a menu is full of that then it makes it harder for me to fully like it does not mean it is not good. But the fish was good! Q has been there a few times with a friend and he really likes it.
Sweet Treats
We have a super great frozen yogurt place right across from our house (we have walked to it many times during winter and summer) called Zoeyogurt, my Zo of course loves it cause it was named after her clearly. But it always has new flavors and they’re actually good flavors! Like every time we go there is probably at least 4 flavors that are new. And a big variety of toppings!
Molly Moon’s I just love it, all the ice cream flavor are some basic ones but they also have different ones you probably have never thought of. Scout Mint with thin mint crumble on top is my favorite!
Frankie & Jo’s is a plant based ice cream place and let me tell you as an ice cream lover and expert this ice cream is GOOD! My sister who is gluten free also loves it because they have gluten free cones.
Might-O Donuts these are vegan donuts but let me tell you nothing vegan tasting about these. SO good and so many different flavors again. And they are not huge donuts so you can actually eat the whole thing and do not feel extremely guilty afterwards!
Chuck’s Donut Shop so my friend had a donut themed birthday for her daughter and told me to try this maple donut, and I was like no I am not really a fan of maple flavored stuff and she was like no trust me just try this. I did and yeah……. My world was changed these are the long donuts and I could eat 2 at a time of these maple donuts. They are just so freaking good the frosting is like a whipped maple so it is not overpowering or too sweet at all.
Shug’s is a place at Pikes Place Market that just has fun different desserts mainly ice cream desserts. Like a champagne float! Or my favorite the S’More sundae that has actual roasted marshmallows on top, yummmmmmy!
Coffee
My favorite coffee place out here is The Woods! Look there is Starbucks on literally every corner out here which is obviously good but we are in the land of coffee here in Seattle so I love trying all different coffee places. My favorite thing to get at The Woods is an Avalanche and the names of the cup sizes are different kinds of trees, so I always get a Cedar Avalanche.
There is a coffee place called General Porpoise Donuts (I mean come on how cute is the name) so they are mainly known for their donuts which I actually have not tried but I love there brown sugar latte. The cups are so cute!
I feel like one of the best ways to explore a new city is by trying the food and local restaurants. It is like going on vacation, I don’t travel to a new place to try a Red Robin I want the local stuff! When we have been to Florida we have tried gator, when we were in Hawaii we did just go to a luau and have hotel version of authentic food we went to the actual mom and pop local restaurants. Also with the social media it is so easy now to find fun and new places to eat. One of the first things I did when we moved here was follow on instagram different Seattle food IGs that are literally only about food and they are local people so they are giving their honest opinion and know where to find all the spots. Any food recommendations please send them our way!
